Emerging Whole: Reclaiming Truth against Prison Depersonalization

I’m thrilled to invite you to our next Theology Matters with a panel led by Rev. Dr. Louis Threatt: “Emerging Whole: Reclaiming Truth against Prison Depersonalization.” As you can read, Dr. Threatt has been a prison chaplain for years. The men on the panel are those he has unconditionally befriended, and the mutual brotherly love is palpable.

Join us for an hour of learning first hand from those who have re-entered society after their prison experiences. What is it like for them going from inside to outside? What are the challenges? How we can better serve and receive the gifts of those who have spent time incarcerated? How can we come alongside to encourage justice-involved persons when it comes to jobs and housing opportunities? How can we be formed by God through them?

Pressing in theologically, how can the wholeness we are given in creation be affected by adversarial dynamics like our mistakes, the mistakes of others, our own false narratives about God and ourselves? Is wholeness in Christ something we are given or something we attain to? Does it go away when we stray, maybe to come back at a later date? Do trying times like incarceration produce wholeness, or instead are they ways God can reveal it? How do we define ourselves and other people in relation to Christ considering the concurrent experiences of brokenness and wholeness? Register now!

Spring at The Glen has been glorious. If you can make it on the 25th don’t rush off after the program. The trails will be waiting for you; six new benches scattered around the property complement the ones already here, along with the Adirondack chairs (not to mention the porch swing, the hammock, and the one-seater rope swing overlooking the pond!). And we’ll have plenty of carrots and apples for those interested in equine therapy with Wicky.

In March we had the joy of being led by Afrika Afeni Mills in her pilot session in advance of the publishing of “Sowing the Seeds of Shalom” (IVP) in which she weaves themes of spiritual contemplation and race. Group pictured below.
